Whilst teeth whitening is regarded as a cosmetic treatment it isn’t without it’s risks. It is very important that the person carrying out the treatment has the knowledge to spot any problems with the teeth and surrounding tissues that could affect the result but much more importantly could result in aggravating an existing problem or cause a new one that could be extremely painful.

There are many ‘whitening clinics’ and even beauty salons offering teeth whitening where the staff have no dental experience that have been on a one or two day course on how to perform the procedure (You should always ask about the ‘Technicians’ dental experience).Quite often using a cheaper generic branded product to carry out the procedure. They usually charge between £149 -£299

At the other end of the scale are cosmetic dentists that have all the knowledge and skill to provide a safe procedure giving you the right result. The downside is the price. Cosmetic dentists’ carry out many procedures that generate a lot of revenue per hour so to make it worthwhile for the dentist to carry out laser teeth whitening they have to charge a considerable amount.

So where do we fit in?
I have worked in the dental industry for 25 years, attended college for 2 years to gain my qualifications and I’m registered with the British Dental Association. I am still involved on a daily basis in general dental practice and still attend courses that keep me up to date with ever evolving dental regulations. I do not offer any other cosmetic treatments, I solely concentrate on teeth whitening and offering a professional, safe treatment.

How can you charge so little?
As we don’t carry out any other more expensive dental treatments we are not ‘making way’ to carry out the procedure plus as we keep our ‘out goings’ down to a minimum by using a focused treatment room within a premises rather than running a large clinic. This way we can offer the market leading treatment, safely in a professional manner at the same price/or better than a beauty salon...

You will see the difference after two or three applications which usually takes up to one hour. Your gums will be protected with rubber dam and then the Beyond™ whitening gel is applied and activated by the cool laser light which enables the gel to swiftly penetrate the discolouration on your teeth.

Each application takes 10-15 minutes, with a full treatment consisting of three applications which is completed after an initial consultation to check that your teeth and gums are healthy and suitable for teeth whitening.

Can everybody have the treatment?
In general almost everybody can have the treatment, but the results can vary. There are a small number of people for whom it is advised treatment is not immediate. These include pregnant and lactating women (although there are no known adverse reactions) and patients with pre-existing sensitivity (this should be addressed before commencing whitening treatments). If you have had dental work in your front teeth you may need additional care.

How long does it last?
Re-whitening may be necessary after 2-3 years, but this depends on the amount of staining products you consume. If you need to re-whiten with power whitening, the whole procedure needs to repeated, but probably with fewer gel applications. Alternatively if you have home-whitening trays you can top-up as necessary at home.

Will the treatment improve the colour of my teeth?
Your teeth will appear brighter and whiter. This is a prerequisite for a healthier, youthful and attractive smile. The improvement is usually several shades lighter. Cosmetic experts say that as a rule of thumb the teeth should be similar in colour, but no lighter than the whites of your eyes.

Will the treatment have any effect on my discoloured white filling or my crown?
No, The whitening only affects natural tooth substance so crowns and fillings remain the same colour. The fillings and crowns can be restored to the lighter shade of the teeth after treatment without any problems. Normally a dentist will wait 2 weeks after the completion of whitening before replacing fillings and crowns. It is important that you are aware of this so that any additional treatment is not an unanticipated financial burden.

What happens if the teeth do not whiten evenly?
If the teeth have white spots on them before bleaching, these spots will appear whiter initially.

Are there any side effects?
Yes, but these are minor and not long lasting. The most common is tooth sensitivity generally it only lasts for a few days.

Restylane treatments at laser beam
As you know laser beam’s whitening technician focuses solely on teeth whitening, we believe that treatments benefit by being carried out by a highly trained professional rather than a ‘jack of all trades’ approach to treatments, this is the reason we do not offer any other cosmetic services.

However, we are pleased to let you know that Julie Epstein RGN (registered general nurse) is by appointment using our treatment room to carry out restylane treatments. Julie is a very experienced and well respected nurse and restylane practitioner who fits in with our philosophy of using specialised personnel to carry out treatments therefore we are happy for her to use our premises.
